Native People – O N E

Today’s post is one that is focussing on music from my local surrounding area and more specifically, Kent-coastal boys, Native People, based in Folkestone. The indie-dance quartet are made up of Reuben (21, vocals and guitar), Connor (18, drums), Hudd (18, guitar) and Luke (20, bass) and they put a new twist on the indie-dance genre with their very 80’s synths sound, bringing reminiscences of the revolutionary New Order, only with a more dreamy, tranquil vibe.

Although only fairly new to the music scene, making their stamp with their debut single Calm Forever last summer, they have already gained some great feedback and recognition! They stormed onto the scene with titles such as, ‘Record of the Week’ – BBC Introducing Kent and ‘Discovery of the Week’ – Amazing Radio. Now with their latest single ONE set to be released for download on the 8th December and yet another ‘Record of the Week’ (BBC Introducing Kent) title tucked securely under their belt, the future is certainly looking bright. So what is to be expected from ONE? A song that can make it feel like summer is here all year long. The incredibly catchy chorus and bluesy guitar essences give an easy listening feel. Native People mention influences being Two Door Cinema Club and Foster The People and this can definitely be identified throughout their music, following the same relaxed dance vibes, particularly with Reuben’s vocals that naturally dance along with ease.

You’ll find the band getting into the festive spirit with their very own Christmas party at London’s The Garage on December 17th, along with DJ support from BBC’s Abbie McCarthy! So be sure to sure to keep an eye out for Native People and I wish them all the best for the future! 🙂
